Lesson 3

HTML Elements explained

Illustrated with a hyperlink

Now that you’ve had a play with some basic HTML, it’s time to understand the concept which is extremely simple.

An HTML page is just a series of HTML elements. Each element is made up of three parts:

<tag attribute>content</tag>

Tags define the start and end of the content. The closing tag has a forward-slash in it to tell the browser it's the end of that element.

The third piece is the attribute. Attributes give the browser more information about the element, and therefore more information about your content.

Let's have a look at a hyperlink to see this in practice.
